The peoples of South America have used it to ensure health, vitality, and longevity, and used to treat illness, disease, fight fatigue, and detoxify the body. Mate tea contains antioxidants, amino acids, and vitamins and minerals. It does not cause jitters or nervousness as coffee does, rather, it balances the body, calming a nervous one or rejuvenating a tired one. It is also used to stimulate other healing herbs.
Add loose tea (1 to 2 teaspoons per cup, 250ml) to a teapot, or infuser basket. Pour very hot water (not boiling) over the tea and let it infuse for up to 3 to 5 minutes. Strain leaves from the teapot before pouring. Add honey or a slice of lemon to taste. Enjoy!
